What to do Before & After your Permanent Makeup Procedure

The Pre Care:

Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before the procedure
Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face/skin
Do not have any type of facial 2 weeks prior to treatment
Do not work out the day of the procedure.
Do not have botox 3 weeks prior
Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior (natural blood thinners)
Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days before the procedure.
In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor colour deposit:
Do not drink alcohol 24 - 48 hours before your tattoo
Do not consume coffee or any caffeine before your procedure
Do not take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood) for at least 3 days

The day of the treatment:
Absorb Gently, blot the area with a clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 5 minutes for the full day until oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymph.
Days 1-7: Wash
Wash daily to remove bacteria and dead skin. (Don't worry...THIS DOES NOT REMOVE THE PIGMENT!)
Gently wash your procedure area each morning and night with water and an antibacterial soap like Dial Soap, Cetaphil or Neutrogena. With a very light touch, use your fingertips to gently cleanse the affected area. Rub the area in a smooth motion for 10 seconds and rinse with water ensuring that all soap is rinsed away. To dry, gently pat with a clean tissue. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or any exfoliants.

Important Reminders
Use a fresh pillowcase
Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour
No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks
Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors.
Avoid heavy sweating and long hot showers for the first 10 days.
Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days
Avoid swimming, lakes, hot tubs for the first 10 days
Avoid topical makeup including sunscreen on the area
DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area.

Remember, with the proper prep and aftercare routine you will have much better results with your microblading or powder brow procedure.
Are you a candidate for semipermanent brow tattoo?
This goes far beyond finding the right artist for you, we also need to determine if your skin is fit and ready to be tattooed. From your age, sensitivity to the condition and quality of your skin, a lot goes into the safety and effectiveness of the micro blading/powder brow process.
As an artist, my goal is always to ensure that you receive the best possible results from your treatment. This is heavily reliant on your skin being healthy, strong, and calm.
Unfortunately, pre-existing skin conditions and skin treatments can heavily compromise the effectiveness of microblaing/powder brows, leaving both you and I in an unfavorable situation. So, before you go ahead and book your appointment, read the pointers below to find out if microblading/powder brows is for you...

SKIN CONDITIONS (FACE ONLY)
*if you have previous work you must book a consultation or send me pictures prior to make sure i can work with it.*
Skin Complications - If you have skin which is prone to complications with eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris and dermatitis (i.e., your skin is constantly flaking, itching, or aggravated), chances are your skin is in a is in a constant state of unrest and shedding and is not suitable for tattooing and therefore won’t hold the pigment well.
Chronic Conditions - The same goes for conditions like chronic acne and rosacea. The inherent nature of this type of skin causes easy bleeding, which once again means your skin will not retain the color very well and intended effect of microblading. Additionally, excessively oily skin can cause those tattooed hair strokes to blur together and give off an unwanted solid effect instead of a naturally feathered look.
Dermatitis (i.e., your skin is constantly flaking, itching, or aggravated), chances are your skin is in a constant state of unrest and shedding and is not suitable for tattooing and your skin won’t hold the pigment.
State of Skin - If your skin is sensitive, it is likely to be easily aggravated and bleed easily. A good way to know if your skin is sensitive is if turns pink very easily from a little scratch. If your skin has large pores, specifically in the region of the eyebrows and forehead (aka the T-Zone), the color will blur and result in a powdered look. Along similar lines, tattooed hair strokes will not lay properly on skin with deep wrinkles, which can make the overall look appear uneven. Moles, bumps, piercing, and generally raised skin around the eyebrows will also not be able to retain color.
Sunburn - If you are hoping to get microblading done but have gotten a tan or worse, a sunburn, it’s best to wait until your skin has resumed it's normal colour and wait until your skin has healed before booking in for a procedure.
Previous Permanent Makeup - People who have previously had permanent makeup may want to change or fix what they have previously had done. Clients may have to consider laser removal prior to a procedure or ask the artist if they can work with their existing permanent makeup to incorporate the old design and colors into the new one. Always disclose if you’ve had previous permanent makeup so the artist can treat you accordingly.

MEDICATIONS
Accutane - Individuals who have been taking acne medications such as Accutane within the last year have an altered skin condition that will not heal well after the procedure. It’s very important that you wait a year before tattooing the skin. Similarly, Retinol and Vitamin A users should discontinue the use of each a month prior to their procedure.
Latisse - Eyelash and eyebrow growth serum bring extra circulation (aka blood flow) to the area resulting in more growth of hair/lashes. Do not underestimate the power of these products! If you have been using Latisse or any other eyelash or eyebrow growth conditioners, the skin in that area is in a hypersensitive state and will bleed easily. Be mindful to discontinue using these at least 3-6 months before going in for a session otherwise you will instantly bleed profusely.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS
Hair Transplant - A commonly unknown fact is that scar tissue will form within the eyebrow transplant site. If you've had a hair transplant for your eyebrows, microblading/Powder is not a suitable procedure for you.
Irregular State - If your body naturally runs hot or you have a bleeding disorder, this will result in excess bleeding and prevent adequate color deposit.
Autoimmune - Even more seriously, if you have an autoimmune disorder such as lupus, or frontal fibrosing alopecia, you will be not a good candidate for Microblading due to your compromised skin health caused by these disorders.
Other Conditions - If you are pregnant, nursing, have hemophilia, a heart condition, , it is absolutely not recommended that you get any form of permanent make up done as this puts you in a high-risk position. People who have heart issues often are on medications that thin the blood which will cause excessive bleeding a poor results with microblading.

REACTIONS TO TREATMENTS

Below is a list of medical conditions that often cause skin irregularities, making microblading an unsuitable procedure for you:
Trichotillomania (i.e., the compulsive pulling of body hair) can causes scar tissue in the skin to be prominent, which does not allow the color to heal properly.
Glaucoma-If you hope to get eyeliner tattooed, the use of glaucoma eye drops makes eyelash follicles and eyelids hypersensitive, causing excessive bleeding and poor color retention.
If you have continued use of Accutane, Retinol, or skin-peeling acids, you may be prone to excessive bleeding due to your altered skin condition, therefore, microblading would not be a viable option for you.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS YOU’VE MIGHT HAVE MISSED....Botox- Get Microblading done BEFORE you get botox so your muscles will be in a normal state of movement. Alternatively, if you regularly use botox, you will need to wait at 3 weeks after botox before doing microblading in order to allow the botox to settle in at its full effect.
Vacationing- microblading/powder is a tattoo and therefore is a mild injury to the skin which takes time to heal. If you are planning to go hot vacation involving sun, sweating, and swimming, make sure you give your skin two weeks to heal post procedure before showing off your new brows on the beach!
Microblading/Ombre Powder brows

Microblading is the process of implanting pigment into the skin to simulate the appearance of natural hair. It is considered a tattoo, and permanent makeup. Although it is considered permanent makeup, it fades over time. Touchups are suggested once a year in order to keep the color fresh and shape precise.
Microblading is meant to be a subtle natural enhancement, and to create fuller more beautiful brows. It looks most natural on clients who already have fine, semi full brow hair, and are wanting to perfect their shape. The more hair you have, the more natural it will appear.
Microblading heals best on healthy dry/normal skin with very small pores. If you have larger pores the microblading strokes will eventually expand to the size of the client’s pores, making it look unnatural.
Oily skin and aging/thin skin is not recommended for microblading. Results will not heal as well, or look as natural. If you are in this category, you would be a better candidate for an powder brows as it is easier and less traumatic on the skin.
Powder is the process of inserting pigment into the skin to simulate the appearance of filled in brows. This is perfect for clients who are perfectionists and want a powdery/more filled in look, but it still heals very natural. Combination brow is done with hair strokes at the head of the brow, and then the arch and tail are filled in with shading. This is a beautiful look for ALL skin types, regardless of oily skin or pore size.

Do you offer consultations?

I will do a consultation at the beginning of each appointment this time is used to determine which semi permanent procedure is best suited for you based off desired look and skin type. After this, I will draw and measure your brow area and fill them in to give you a preview of what your new brows will look like. We will not get started with the semi permanent procedure until you are happy with the final result. I do not offer separate consultation appointments. When you go to book you can select either semi permanent brow procedure and we will decide after your day of consultation which technique is best suited for you.

How long does microblading last?
The treatment is considered semi-permanent and will not wash off, however, it will fade over time and may need a touch-up every 1-3 years. Frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors including: the pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), iron deficiency (your body absorbs iron-oxide as a supplement), and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas. Please note that final results can not be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. Cosmetic tattooing is designed to fade over time.
Touch-ups are normal for cosmetic tattoo procedures, with each new procedure requiring 2 visits. The initial procedure is followed by a touch-up procedure if needed 8 weeks later.

How many treatments are needed?
Two treatments are usually needed, at least 8 weeks apart. Sometimes just one treatment is sufficient, but a touch-up appointment is offered if needed and included in pricing. With most procedures, the color looks dramatically lighter after the first week. Some clients prefer this, while others opt for a bolder look. At the second treatment, we will assess the color retention and make adjustments as necessary. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly the first time, do not worry! We can always go darker and add more density at your next appointment.
How will I look immediately after? What is the healing process?
Your semi-permanent makeup will appear darker and bigger than expected for the first few days. This will gradually lighten during the complete healing process. Please view the detailed aftercare.
Can I exercise after getting a cosmetic tattoo?
You must avoid working out for 5-7 days following your cosmetic tattoo appointment. Light exercising is allowed (minimal sweating), but you MUST clean the tattooed area with lukewarm water as soon as you are done exercising. The salt in the sweat will fade the pigment very quickly and give poor results.

- If you normally get your eyebrows waxed or threaded to maintain the shape, you may get them shaped 3 days prior to your microblading appointment.
- If you would like your artist to use as much hair as possible, you may let your eyebrows grow until your microblading appointment. Your artist will pluck any stray hairs that you wish to remove after the mapping of your new eyebrows.
- Avoid tanning two weeks prior to your microblading appointment.
- Do NOT come to your microblading appointment with a sunburn on your forehead or flaking skin around your eyebrows. In this case, email your artist at least 48 hours prior to your appointment to reschedule.
- Avoid chemical peels at least 4 weeks prior to your microblading appointment.
- All facials & skin treatments must be done 4 weeks prior to your appointment of 4 weeks after your appointment.
- You can get Botox & fillers 4 weeks prior to your appointment or 4 weeks after your appointment.

AFTERCARE
IMMEDIATELY AFTER:
- Immediately following your procedure, the tattooed area will appear to be darker and bolder in color and more sharply defined. This will last 3-4 days. Do not panic! It is normal.
- Swelling and redness is minimal with most clients, and will disappear within 24-48 hours. In some cases, it may last around the eyebrow area for up to 3 days, but will not prevent working or socializing. The treated area may feel a bit like a sunburn afterwards but there should only be minimal discomfort.
- You may shower or bathe normally, but avoid using any soaps or cleansers on the treated area for the first week as they can be detrimental to the bonding process that must take place for the pigment to stabilize in the dermis.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before touching the tattooed area.
- Keep the tattooed area clean by rinsing with lukewarm water and patting dry with a disposable paper towel 3 times a day for the first week. Keep cleaning them with lukewarm water twice a day for the second week.
- Avoid any kind of moisturizer, oil and Vaseline for the first two weeks. Only apply a very small amount of the provided ointment in the morning after cleaning the eyebrows with warm water. Apply using a disposable cotton swab. The goal is to have your tattoo flake off naturally, rather than form into large scabs. You may use the ointment for the first 7 days.
- You must avoid working out for 5-7 days following your cosmetic tattoo appointment. Light exercising is allowed (minimal sweating), but you MUST clean the tattooed area with lukewarm water as soon as you are done exercising. The salt in the sweat will fade the pigment very quickly and give poor results.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for the first 14 days. You MUST wear a hat while outside during the healing process.
- Do NOT pick or scratch at the dry skin/flakiness; let the skin fall off naturally. Picking can cause scarring and premature loss of pigment. IMPORTANT: Once the flakes have fallen off, a shiny layer of healing skin will completely cover the hair strokes. It will appear as though the eyebrows are gone. Within 1-2 weeks, the hair strokes will slowly reappear at a lighter shade as your skin regenerates.
- Do NOT apply make-up to the tattooed area for the first 2 weeks. Chemicals of any kind may interfere with the healing and color of your tattoo.
- Once the treated area is completely healed, any changes or additions that need to be made can be done at your follow-up appointment.
- The complete healing process takes about 6-8 weeks, at which time the true color of the tattoo is evident. During this process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. Be patient, even if you think too much color has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating. Wait at least 6 weeks to see the true color, as it seems to take on new strength, and it is only after 6 weeks that your touch-up/adjustment can be done. Keep in mind that microbladed brows healed up to 30% softer than the initial color.
ONCE HEALED:
- Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, you may apply sunscreen on the treated area. Wear large sunglasses and a hat for further protection. Rinse and dry the area thoroughly when in contact with chlorine.
- Glycolic Acid, retin-a, face peels and exfoliation must be kept away from the tattooed area as continued use could lighten the pigment.
- If you are having laser resurfacing or laser hair removal after your tattoo has healed, please inform the laser technician. Laser procedures may darken, lighten, or discolor t
